ABOUT OPERATIVE TECHNIQUES IN OTOLARYNGOLOGY - HEAD AND NECK SURGERY

This large-size, atlas-format journal presents detailed illustrations of new surgical procedures and techniques in otology, rhinology, laryngology, reconstructive head and neck surgery, and facial plastic surgery. Feature articles in each issue are related to a central theme by anatomic area or disease process. The journal will also often contain articles on complications, diagnosis, treatment or rehabilitation. New techniques that are non-operative are also featured.


Introduction
During the last 15 years, minimally invasive surgical techniques have transformed many areas of surgery and have begun to replace conventional operative surgery in several specialties, such as abdominal and thoracic surgery. Much improved illumination, endoscopic visualization, and specialized instrumentation have allowed this mini-revolution in surgical technique. Otolaryngologists have been at the forefront embracing the use of illumination and magnification to allow minimally invasive techniques that primarily use natural orifices, allowing access to the ear, nose, and aero-digestive tract and this progress is continuing apace with the potential for robotic surgery being explored.
