For all official information you should go to United States Medical Licensing Examination™ and you will be able find everything you need to know about the exam. If you are an international medical graduate and your college is listed in the WHO or IMED directory of colleges, then you can register yourself at ECFMG® | Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.
The exam is basically 3 steps. Step 1 is basic science. Step 2 is divided into clinical knowledge and clinical skills exam. The latter has to be taken only in USA. Step 3 is taken, after completion of the previous steps, in USA.

If there is any specific question then feel free to ask.

Default internship

Hi,
thanks for the above information.
i have a few questions to ask you though.
my course here in kamapla is a 5 yr MBChB course. we are awarded degrees right after the five years. and we are given registration in the medical council after one year of internship in any hospital that accepts you.
so the question is.. do i have to do internship here before applying for residency in the us after the usmle steps? is it a compulsory thing to do? or is it possible to join a residency course without a prior internship? if not, is it possible to do internship in the us? i dnt mean internship as the residency 1st year.. just the one year on internship one usually does after the basci medicine degree.
and if i can do internship in the us then what is the procedure. would it cost alot? what costs would i have to overcome?

thank you. hoping for a detailed answer soon..

@kool.doc4u
hey..remembr u frm anastomosis :P
internship is not a requirement fr residency in the US...as long as u hv da degree..u can apply fr a residency..but it is a good option to get registered in atleast 1 country b4 u go to the US coz u mite hav to leave USA at sum point of time (which...depends on wht visa u get) ... and den doin interenship at a later stage wud be very annoyin/boring/difficult/whateva (i wudnt wanna do internship after residency frm USA :P ) .. but if u get a degree before u do internship den u can always apply fr residency widout the interenshp...

tokin abt electives...u can do em while u r enrolled as a final yr med student .. it is expensive in sum univs...its very cheap in sum..so depends on which univ u applied to...Baylor collg of med, houston .. $500 per month and $500 for applicatn .. about $200/month fr insurance .. etc
univs like Yale charge 2500$ pm .. nw dats expensive .. !!!
observrshp mite b cheaper .. but u dont get hands on experience...so if u hv already graduated...externship wud b a bettr choice..but dat is expensive
good luck..
